Given the Apple lawsuit against three bloggers who leaked product information, there ‘s been a lot of navel gazing as to whether a blogger is a journalist. Discussion and debate has increased ten-fold since a California judge ruled last week that the bloggers must reveal where they got that product information, which means in the eyes of the law those who blog are not considered reporters.
Are bloggers journalists? Let’s see – They’re certainly self-important and cranky enough. And at trade shows they ask stupid questions, eat all they can at the media center and attend parties just to get free stuff. Well, they certainly act like reporters.
