Currently most city middle and high schools have some cell phone policies in place, but the new draft would extend to elementary schools, as well.
”This is an issue that has been brewing, as cell phones became more of a reality, not only at the high school level, but also at the elementary level,” school committee Chair Liz Reilinger told The Boston Globe. ”When kids are in school, they should be there learning and not having conversations on the cell phones.”
The current draft would ban phone use during the school day and at afterschool activities. Students could only make calls before or after school and outside the building.
