Users, IT play with fire

Clearswift released another panic-inducing survey this week, which shows users – and IT staffers – are still monkeying around on your network. The Email Threats in the Workplace survey is enough to strike fear in the heart of any CEO:

For example:

  • Over half of all employees in the UK, Germany and the U.S. admit to receiving and forwarding jokes and other inappropriate material via the corporate e-mail system. Cheeky Brits are most likely to engage in such behavior, says the survey. (Hello, David Brent!).
  • Twenty-six percent of IT department employees claim to have distributed confidential information outside the company via e-mail, compared to 10% of non-IT employees.
  • Almost 45% of all staff in the three countries use Web mail regularly.

More head-shaking statistics here.
