Tivo’s nutty logic

One of Tivo’s most amusing features is its ability to record new shows for you based on what you’ve Tivo’d previously. It’s funny because for the first month or so, Tivo gets it wildly wrong.

For instance, we first had our Tivo set up to record “24”, “The Surreal Life,” and about 96 “Law & Orders”. Based on that, Tivo recommended “The Golden Girls,” “Moesha,” “Girlfriends” and “Full House.” We’re not sure what type of if-then statements that box is running on.

Most Tivoers have similarly amusing stories, such as columnist Owen Thomas, whose gay friend is aghast that “Tivo thinks I’m straight.”
