Amazon: A privacy threat?

Opinion

Amazon.com was one of the original pioneers in e-commerce personalization. For years, it’s been collecting information on your likes and dislikes based on what you buy and view on the site, and making suggestions on more stuff you might like to buy and see.

And while that’s certainly handy, should you be worried that Amazon’s got the goods on you? Some privacy advocates say yes.

“They are constantly finding new ways to exploit personal information,” Chris Hoofnagle, of the Electronic Privacy Information Center, told the AP.

The story describes the EPIC as “an Amazon nemesis since 2000.” That’d be a great marketing slogan: “Welcome to the Electronic Privacy Information Center…an Amazon nemesis since 2000.”

More on Amazon’s revolutionary use of customer data and/or horrendous abuse of said data (depending on your POV) here.
