The rise of biometric security is a boon not only to those who need to ensure the safe-keeping of an object, but also to Hollywood. The more prevalent its use, the more movies and TV shows can feature people running around with someone else’s eye or finger and have it not seem so outlandish. See last week’s “Alias,” for example.
But just how realistic is such finger- or eye-stealing? Ask a recently four-fingered Malaysian accountant. Authorities say the man was hijacked in his Mercedes S-class. The car thieves forced the victim to place his finger on the security panel to restart the car, and he was tossed in the back seat. After they no longer needed the owner, they realized they *did* need his index finger. They chopped it off with a machete and left him naked on the side of a road.
