Today’s Register is reporting that MI5’s new computer system is scheduled to go over budget by at least 50%. Given that they’re British, they’re too polite to go public with the actual embarrassing figure.
A report on MI5’s infrastructure overhaul states: “We have been told that the project will now deliver less capability than previously planned and it will cost at least 50 per cent more than originally estimated.” See, that sounds positively American.
The Register also reports that the agency’s secure Web-based information system, which would connect the producers and consumers of intelligence – called SCOPE – is running three years late.
