If your ranger doesn’t have enough experience points or gold to buy Godliest Level 1 Armor or an Ethereal Death Colossus Sword – and you don’t have the time to earn them via hours of game play – why not just buy one via eBay auction?
Since this virtual product/real money marketplace evolved, the game manufacturers have either turned a blind eye or suspended the accounts of those who traded their items for money. But now that gaming vendors see money in them thar hills, they’re suddenly OK with the whole thing.
Sony Online Entertainment, which makes EverQuest, says it will open an official auction site, Station Exchange, in June.
“Not only are we answering the demands of a sizable portion of our subscriber base, but we are also set on establishing the standard for online game sales,” Sony Online president John Smedley said.
And, you know, making a tidy profit, too.
