Anyway, last week David Clark heard about the offer in which Intel pledged to pay 10 large for the April 19, 1965 issue. That edition contained the first printed mention of Moore’s Law, which celebrated its 40th anniversary last week.
Now what’s interesting about this (aside from the whole stashing nerdy mags in the floorboards thing) is that Intel went outside the U.S. to award the prize. As we posted on Wednesday, after Intel announced the $10,000 bounty, one of two copies of that issue went missing from the University of Illinois engineering library, and other schools that had the issue were pulling them from circulation to avoid similar thefts.
Perhaps Intel thought going the international pack-rat route would avoid any allegations of buying a hot magazine.
