IBM big cheese Sam Palmisano says he and 49 other top company executives won’t get raises until the company reverses its slump.

USA Today reports IBM “shocked” Wall Street with lower-than-expected earnings. We’ve always wondered, do you think investors are really “shocked,” as in they emit a loud gasp and collapse or scream “OH MY GOD!” while on the earnings call?

Anyway, so Sam and the gang don’t get raises, big whoop. Neither has any worker bee in the industry over the past five years – and that’s if they’ve been lucky enough to avoid the chop.

If Sam really wants to impress (at least us), how about not taking any bonuses or going the Google route and work for $1 for the year? We’re pretty sure if he and his fellow execs search the couch cushions, they’ll still find enough money to gas up the yacht for the summer.
