A British study has found that parents who are ‘Net-illiterate raise ‘Net-illiterate children, leaving them on the wrong side of the digital tracks.
“Not knowing how to best use the Internet may have a negative impact on their education and employment opportunities,” said Sonia Livingstone, social psychology professor at the London School of Economics.
The LSE’s research also indicated that parents who restrict their children’s Web use “may make their children less aware of online risks, such as those from chatrooms.” The study recommends projects aimed at educating parents about the Internet, as well as advising them to go online with their children.
