Yet another difference between Apple and Microsoft: their opinions on blogs.
Apple’s not hot on blogs that speculate, comment or leak information about upcoming products, while Microsoft is trying to recruit bloggerss to do just that. Kinda.
The Register reports that Redmond and Microsoft evangelist/blogger Robert Scoble are looking for 20 volunteer bloggers to comprise Team 99, which will “will provide feedback on upcoming builds of Longhorn whilst also selectively filtering news of changes back to the community.”
That last sentence is intriguing. What we think they meant to write is “will provide [only positive] feedback on upcoming builds of Longhorn whilst also selectively filtering [Microsoft-approved] news of changes back to the community [which we hope will love the long-delayed OS].”
It’ll be interesting to see if this takes off. Bloggers are usually not keen to cotton to another’s agenda and have their writing “selectively filtered.” If Team 99 takes off, it’ll be neat to see if anyone believes anything they write or they’re just viewed as in Redmond’s deep pocket.
