Florida emergency management officials say e-mail is the best way to get quick, critical weather alerts out to residents.
Except, that is, to those residents who are also AOL customers.
Emergency management coordinators in Indian River County have found that AOL has been tagging the alerts as spam and discarding them before they reach the user.
More than 4,000 people signed up for the county’s e-mail alert service, offering quick alerts on hurricanes, tornadoes and other weather emergencies. No word on how many were bounced.
The county is now working with AOL to solve the problem.
