Military may draft XM radio

The U.S. military may soon be new XM satellite radio subscribers as the company has built a digital emergency communications system that can disperse information to personnel in times of crisis.

XM and Raytheon have built into the former’s satellites The Mobile Enhanced Situational Awareness Network (MESA), which would be broadcast on a dedicated channel available only to military personnel with special receivers. Wonder where they’ll put MESA in the channel lineup – right between Soul Street and Deep Tracks?
