Even the dead can’t escape AOL

Ever since Vincent Ferrari recorded his break-up call with AOL and exposed the ISP’s “customer service” staff, people are coming out of the woodwork with similar tales.

Few, we would think, top that of 55-year-old Maxine Gauthier of St. Louis, who has been trying to cancel her dead father’s AOL account for 9 months. Gauthier has no interest in a computer nor AOL, and has tried time after time to get his account canceled. Time and time again, AOL staff has hung up on her.

She’s even offered to send in a copy of his obituary to prove he’s really dead. AOL’s reply?

“An AOL service guy told me to stop complaining and learn to use a computer,” she told the St. Louis Post Dispatch. “Then he hung up.”
