Is the Zune half alive or half dead? Depends on whom you ask. Earlier this week Financial Times had a blog post noting that Zune was tanking, landing at #95 in Amazon’s list of 100 best selling electronic gadgets following the initial holiday shopping weekend. Gear selling better than Zune included the American Red Cross’ emergency radio and Logitech’s advanced universal remote. Oooh, I could use that radio… Anyway, curiously the next day the spin starts kicking in as an analyst firm releases figures noting that Zune already has 9% market share. Which leads to headlines like While not a splash, Zune makes positive debut and Reports of Zune’s demise may be exaggerated We love this qualified quote: “For a new brand that received limited to mixed reviews, and which is incompatible with the leading music store (Apple’s iTunes,) as well as other music stores, it was a good launch,” says Ross Rubin, an NPD analyst. Anyway, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?
