Two drug abuse prevention groups are asking YouTube to remove clips showing people huffing, aka, inhaling household cleaning flumes to get high. So that sounds noble, but Jim Romesko over at Obscure Store brings up a great point: “I wouldn’t have known they were online if drug abuse prevention groups hadn’t made a stink about them.” Did the groups inadvertently give more publicity to a problem they’re trying to fight? And is their request, in effect, censorship?
