MicroStrategy: when NOT to buy a corporate jet 101

They may be the self-professed “leader in business Intelligence software” but one has to wonder if the intelligence part spreads to any of the executives running the company. MicroStrategy not that long ago had an accounting irregularity problem where its chief execs were fined by the Securities and Exchange Commission and paid out additional money in shareholder lawsuits. This week though the firm had good news: an almost 19% increase in 4Q earnings, but then company execs went out and bought an executive jet aircraft. And not just any aircraft, a made-to-order, $46 million Bombardier Global Express XRS:

The price is more than double the company’s fourth-quarter profit of $22.35 million. Ummm, ok. Glad I don’t have to explain that to my shareholders.
