Nvidia plans include use its technology to build AI factories developed and operated by CoreWeave
Nvidia continues to throw its sizable bank account around, this time making a $2 billion investment in GPU cloud service provider CoreWeave.
The company says the investment reflects Nvidia’s “confidence in CoreWeave’s business, team and growth strategy as a cloud platform built on Nvidia infrastructure.”

CoreWeave is not the only company that has built its business on Nvidia infrastructure: so has Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Oracle, and dedicated GPU CSPs like Lambda Labs, Crusoe, and RunPod.
Before the deal was even struck Nvidia owned approximately 6% of CoreWeave, and this additional investment is believed to boost Nvidia’s total ownership to around 9%. And Nvidia is hardly planning on being a passive shareholder. It says it plans to do the following:
- Build AI factories developed and operated by CoreWeave using Nvidia technology.
- Use Nvidia’s financial strength to accelerate CoreWeave’s procurement of land, power and shell to build AI factories.
- Test and validate CoreWeave’s AI-native software and reference architecture with Nvidia’s reference architectures for Nvidia’s cloud partners and enterprise customers.
- Deploy multiple generations of Nvidia infrastructure across CoreWeave’s platform through early adoption of Nvidia computing architectures. This covers Nvidia Vera CPUs, Rubin GPUs and BlueField storage systems.
And apparently CoreWeave is the first Nvidia customer getting access to its Vera CPU chip as a standalone unit.
There have been rumors that Nvidia was actually considering becoming a cloud service provider and competing with the very customers who buy massive amounts of its chips. But the idea was scrapped because it would have required massive investment to try and gain ground on AWS and other large service providers.
