10G Ehternet for server to the data center network has not caught up to use in the network core

Ten-gigabit Ethernet for server or blade-chassis access to the data center network is running well behind use in the network core. Still, by 2011 36% of benchmarked organizations were expecting to be using it. Some major drivers: virtualization-driven server consolidation, which brings many virtual servers’ traffic onto one physical server’s network connections; rising use of blade servers; and real-time communications and media streaming.
