Why downloading a torrent of iLife '09 is a dangerous move
When Phil Schiller delivered the keynote at Macworld this year, one of the more intriguing announcements was the introduction of iLife ’09. iLife ’09 is Apple’s latest update to its ‘lifestyle’ software suite and contains significant updates across the board – iPhoto and iMovie just by themselves seem to justify the $79 retail price.
In any event, eager Apple users who pre-ordered iLife were recently notified that their orders had shipped, and the software also went on sale today at a number of Best Buy locations as well. Not surprisingly, though, reports are surfacing suggesting that iLife ’09 has already found its way onto a number of torrent sites.
Now, before you stop reading and attempt to get your pirate on, you should be aware that users who just recently downloaded pirated versions of iWork ’09 and Adobe Photoshop CS4 found themselves the unlucky beneficiaries of a serious trojan horse. While tools to remove the trojan have already been released, over 20,000 computers became infected before the issue became well-known. With that in mind, I don’t see how anyone in their right mind would even think about pirating iLife ’09.
