How we tested the IBM eServer 326m.
We tested the IBM eServer 326m on a nonblocking switched Gigabit Ethernet network consisting of an HP DL585 (four dual-core AMD 64 Opterons), HPDL140 (dual 3.6GHz Intel Xeons), Sun SunServer with eight-core UltraSPARC T2 CPUs, Polywell 2200s (dual AMD single core 64 Opterons), Apple XServers (dual PowerPC G4 CPUs) running Windows 2003 Enterprise Server Edition, Solaris 10 and MacOS 10.4.7, respectively, along with HP ZV5000 notebook, PowerBook G4 notebook, and many HP, Sony and Dell notebooks under Windows XP SP2 or SUSE Linux 10.1/OpenSUSE 10.1.
Performance observations were made using a comparison between LMBench3 results between the IBM E326m and the Polywell 2200s with twin 2.6GHz 64-bit 255-series Opterons.
We observed that as might be expected, the four-core E326m was essentially twice as fast as the two-core 1U systems, and came close in performance to the eight-core HP585 in memory movement measurements.
We tested SUSE Enterprise Linux V9 and V10, OpenSUSE 10, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, Microsoft Windows 2003 Server and Enterprise Server successfully, except for driver selection under Linux, described elsewhere.
