How we tested SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10.
We tested SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 on several server platforms, including HP DL140s (twin 32-bit Xeons), which were used for many of our tests.
We also tested on an HP585 (four-way Advanced Micro Devices 64-bit, dual-core CPUs), an IBM e326M (dual AMD Opteron CPUs) and several white box or generic systems. We used LMBench3 for performance benchmarking, compiled on each platform using defaults, and default installation configuration options for SLES 10 that were identical between platforms.
We tested and audited system configuration with varying installation choices, then noted configuration files, directions to load various applications and security configurations.
We tried AppArmor for several standard Linux daemons and found the policy configurations were more experimental in nature than we would have liked.
We tested Xen performance on 32- and 64-bit platforms between SLES 9 and SLES 10 on numerous platforms, finding that performance varies between the platform in small ways but is essentially the same between the two versions of the operating systems.
