Prognosticating groundhog Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning, the little pipsqueak, and as I gaze out the window at a winter wonderland I’m not at all pleased that we’ll be seeing six more weeks’ worth. But instead I should be looking inside – or rather, online – since Network World Fusion has an exciting new design that’s simpler and cleaner, with a few new features. Among them: “Layer 8,” a page that goes beyond the seven-layer OSI networking model to what’s really important in networking. Take a gander and let us know what you think. Network World has the scoop on EMC’s plans next week for lots of new storage arrays and storage management capabilities. The new arrays promise to be bigger and faster than previous versions.

The worm attacks! SCO downed by MyDoom

Computers infected with the MyDoom virus Sunday launched a massive attack against the Web site of Unix software maker The SCO Group, cutting off access to the company’s Web site. The so-called “distributed denial-of-service” attack began early Sunday as MyDoom-infected computers worldwide followed instructions to send messages to www.sco.com, overloading the company’s Web servers.
