One of the more interesting revelations coming out of Bill Gates’ RSA Conference keynote address was that the company is developing a standalone message transfer agent – an agent to replace the SMTP service that’s part of Exchange. You see, the current setup can force network administrators to leave ports open at the edge of their network, thereby painting on their system a large “Kick Me” sign that’s visible to hackers.
