It’s well known that Starbucks took to the wireless LAN hot spot concept early and with gusto. What isn’t as well known is that Starbucks is using the WLAN for more than just customer Internet access. The coffee-shop chain – which Starbucks’ VP of IT calls a “network-centric company” – is also using the network for managing store systems, providing access to the home office for its traveling salesforce, and is even considering it for IP voice. CA updates software to manage Web services
