WildPackets OmniPeek Performs at Olympics

Anybody utilizing the various wireless networks at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games can be rest assured that they are in good hands. In a recent press release, “China Mobile, the World’s largest mobile subscribers telecommunications provider (and Olympics partner) implemented WildPackets OmniPeek to proactively prevent wireless network outages at 14 Olympic venues.” I recently had the opportunity to speak with Tony Barbagallo, VP of Marketing at WildPackets about the OmniPeek platform. OmniPeek is an exciting new platform that operates in both wired and wireless environments. It monitors, archives, and analyzes packets and flows to allow administrators to quickly identify problems. In addition to handling the day-to-day monitoring of networks, OmniPeek can “drill down” and see the recorded packets and payloads captured in live scenarios, or previously-recorded events. In addition, the platform allows administrators to convert hexadecimal strings into plain-text within the management console. With these tools, OmniPeek offers administrators and network architects a one-stop solution for network data analysis, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting. For large event networks, such as the 2008 Olympics, a platform like OmniPeek is absolutely essential. With multiple applications streaming over the network, including voice and video, latency must be kept to an all-time low. China Mobile, the network operator, chose the platform to provide extremely high-availability and ease of management. Let’s face it: the Olympics is a demanding event for IT. With the entire world watching, both user-facing and event-facing networks must perform. There simply isn’t room for much error, and problems must be diagnosed and repaired quickly. If the WildPackets OmniPeek platform is ready for the Olympics, then I anticipate that it will be more than adequate for even the most demanding corporate environments. Want more information?
