WMUR, the major television station in New Hampshire, seemed to be suffering an outage when I switched over to Sunday evening’s 11 o’clock news. Given there was a big primary debate in the state tonight and the weather forecast for tomorrow is not great, I wanted to tune in. Turns out, the channel is having some problems on multiple cable systems, so it decided to stream its newscast live on its Web site. Very cool!
Why the don’t do this regularly is beyond me – it’s a great outlet for reaching far flung viewers. There were a few glitches. During commercial breaks the screen was blank and they are not showing the sports report (my guess is that has to do with antiquated rights deals). Bottom line though: Bravo to WMUR for recognizing the problem and coming up with a great solution.
