02/26/08 – Day 5
Talked with Kevin Matheson of Technisource. The position he was looking at me for has been filled. The client was contacted about me and asked to see my resume so I can be considered for potential openings they anticipate coming up in the coming weeks. He asked that I come by at 9 a.m. tomorrow to meet with him and some of his account managers.
Check both CareerBuilder.com and Dice.com. No new postings for what I have experience in. I am checking both of these sites 2 to 3 times a day to make sure I am applying for jobs as soon as they are posted. I am periodically looking at other job boards but with the cross-posting of jobs by companies to multiple job Web sites, the time spent doing that doesn’t seem justified.
I have learned that with Dice.com, I need to click on the date column on the jobs matching my resume so I can quickly identify the new postings to see what I need to apply for. CareerBuilder.com doesn’t make it as easy, they color code the jobs based on how recently they were posted.
Had a call from Stuart Gage at Vision Consulting. He was following up on a Network Security position that I had applied for. We talked about several things on my resume. I offered to send a pdf version of my resume which would probably be a little easier to read than the one he got off the job board. If the account manager for the position feels I am a good fit, I could have a call back later today asking me to come in for a face to face before interviewing with the client.
Had another call from Stuart. They were having problems copying information from the PDF I sent into the system they used for presenting the information to clients. Since I use OpenOffice, I was able to easily convert it from ODT, which I normally use, to MS Word format.
Emailed the converted resume to him. Also answered some questions he and the account manager had for my experience in certain areas that the client was looking at.
Stuart called later in the day to let me know that it had been decided to present my resume to the prospective client. He said he would call me back as soon as they had a decision from the client as to whether they wanted to interview me or not. At that point, I would come in for an interview with them before proceeding onto the client’s location.
Lance Boecker of TekSystems called to let me know what he had been seeing lately and to check on how I was doing. He indicated that the telecom related postings were on the rise lately but the infrastructure side was a little slow. He was going to check on a temporary job listing he had seen recently to see if it was still open and let me know.
