Joel Stein’s rant against interactive discourse generates lots of it

Was kind of hurried yesterday when recounting the tale of L.A. Times columnist Joel Stein and his over-the-top trashing of readers who actually enjoy writing e-mail to pundits like Stein (or yours truly). Didn’t have a chance to point to some of the better dissections of Stein’s provocative treatise.

The always-entertaining Brad DeLong spanks Mr. Stein for botching facts in one of his regular “Why Oh Why Can’t We Have A Better Press Corps” entries.

The Chicago Tribune’s Eric Zorn gives the matter a more thoughtful once-over, even going so far as to ask readers for their opinions.

Scott Karp notes that this isn’t exactly a fresh debate.

And there’s a bunch more out there if you’re so inclined.
