Forever stamp: Deal or no deal?

Opinion

Is the “forever stamp” that may be coming from the U.S. Postal Service later this year a good investment for penny-pinchers?

According to this fellow’s analysis, it’s a good short-term deal if you buy the stamps right before a rate increase and purchase only enough for about a year.

Otherwise, no deal.

Having bluffed my way through college economics, I can’t comment one way or the other as to the wisdom of that analysis.

But I will say this much: It never ceases to amaze me that for 39 cents I can have a letter picked up outside my house in Massachusetts and delivered to my sister’s house in St. Paul (it’s a hypothetical; we don’t actually snail-mail each other except maybe at Christmas). I mean gripe all you want about the upcoming price hike; that’s a bargain.
