There’s something ironic about blogging about today’s “One-day Blog Silence” remembrance for those killed at Virginia Tech. … But, hey, this is a news site and someone’s got to do it.

Silence can say more than a thousand words.
This day shall unite us all about this unbelievable painful & shocking event and show some respect and love to those who lost their loved ones.
On April 30th 2007, the Blogosphere will hold a One-Day Blog Silence in honor of the victims at Virginia Tech. More then 30 died at the US college massacre.
But it´s not only about them. Many bloggers have responded and asked about all the other victims of our world. All the people who die every day. What about them?
This day can be a symbol of support to all the victims of our world!
Plenty of bloggers are participating, such as this one and this one and this one. And you can scroll through as many as you’d like here at Google Blog Search or here at Technorati.
As with everything else on the Internet, there is disagreement about this event, too.
Here’s one example: “No I will NOT be silent.”
And there have been truly thoughtful posts, such as this one by Lorelle VanFossen about her experiencing Yom HaShoah, or Holocaust Memorial Day, in Israel for the first time.
My own opinion: Whether tragedy touches them personally or not, everyone reacts differently to it. They grieve differently. And they heal differently. To the extent a remembrance of this nature helps those who participate – or those who merely observe and reflect – it’s all good.
The blogosphere won’t lack for voices today.
