Iomega Tuesday announced v.Clone, an application to create and carry on an Iomega hard drive an image of their primary PC that can be run on another PC. While limited to PCs (not Macs), the product provides a solution to the typical problem of recovery from loss or failure of a primary PC. Data recovery becomes a final step after the complete computing environment is recreated on another machine, including applications like Office, e-mail files, etc. Developed in conjunction with EMC and incorporating VMware virtualization technology, v.Clone makes a virtual clone of a primary computer’s operating system, applications and personal settings and stores that content on an Iomega external USB hard drive. Iomega will be demonstrating v.Clone at the Consumer Electronics Show and will be shipping it with its USB 2.0 portable drives during Q1 2010.
