Storage Networking World is taking place in San Diego this week and some of the storage vendors there are introducing some really cool things.
HP is rolling out a new version of its Storage Essentials management software designed for midsize enterprises consisting of between 100 and 1,000 employees. Storage Essentials Standard Edition has incorporated wizard technology to ease installation and configuration. The software manages HP’s StorageWorks Modular Smart Array, Enterprise Virtual Array and the company’s network-attached storage and modular tape libraries. Expected to ship in June, Storage Essentials Standard Edition starts at $37,000.
WysDM, a maker of data protection management software, is announcing an OEM relationship with Double-Take Software, a vendor that makes continuous data protection, application availability and system state protection software. Double-Take will use the WysDM predictive analysis and detailed reporting capabilities with its products.
One of the coolest announcements though is one that backup vendor Arkeia is making. The company is announcing the EdgeFort appliance – an all-in-one backup appliance – for small and midsize businesses and remote offices. Arkeia is a nine-year old company with 5,000 customers according to its claims. Arkeia has focused on open source backup but in the past two years has moved to the Windows environments. The EdgeFort appliance presently comes in two models – the EdgeFort 100 Series and the EdgeFort 200 Series. The 100 Series is designed for entry level and small businesses; the 200 Series is for midsize enterprises and remote offices. Further, the 200 Series has disk-to-disk-to-tape and encryption capabilities. The appliances start in price at under $3,000 and include Arkeia’s backup software.
