*HP releases a server aimed at small businesses
HP last week introduced a server for enterprise workgroups and small and midsize businesses that is easy to use, manage and maintain.
The ProLiant ML150 G2 comes with either one or two Intel Xeon DP processors and can be configured with management software and hardware to allow remote troubleshooting by a value-added reseller or remote IT manager. The HP Lights-Out 100 Remote Management feature lets network managers or resellers remotely monitor, configure and maintain the server.
The ML150 G2 has error-correcting memory for fault tolerance and PCI-X support, six I/O adapter cards, six hard disk drives and four slots for memory. The server operates at 2.8 GHz, 3.0 GHz or 3.2 GHz and features 1M byte of L2 cache memory for faster processing. It has an 800-MHz front-side bus and comes standard with 512M bytes of memory and an upward capacity of 8G bytes.
The tower-based server can ship with Windows 2000 or 2003 Server, Novell’s NetWare or SuSE Linux and Red Hat Linux. It has a variety of optional features including an External Hard Disk Drive Backup package from Seagate that lets users back up their systems. It can feature the HP Single Channel Ultra320 SCSI Host Bus Adapter, which allows for the attachment of tape drives. Also available are the HP 1×4 USB/PS2 keyboard video mouse switch for remote manageability and the NC1020 and NC150T Gigabit Ethernet switches for faster network connections. An optional 5U rack mount kit is available.
The system starts at nearly $1,130 for a single-processor model running at 3 GHz. A dual-processor model starts at $1,680. HP Lights-Out 100 Remote Management is available as an option.
