The Motley Fool’s Rich Smith thinks so: “Cisco’s ‘heh, we’re self-defending’ placement offers a prime example of the kind of marketing insinuation that doesn’t work, in my opinion. It’s the kind of ‘kink’ that we can hope advertisers will work out as they transition to a new advertising model eschewing actual, bathroom-break-inducing commercial blocks in favor of seamlessly integrating products into storylines.”
We know Cisco wants to grab the TV viewer/home network crowd, but that’s not their bread and butter. How many IT VPs do you think are at home, watching “24” and shout, “That’s it! I’ve been on the fence with VoIP, but now I’m going with Cisco. If it’s good enough for CTU, it’s good enough for me!”
In our opinion, it’s more of a foray into American zeitgeist, not so much a marketing move.
