Motel owner takes on royalty over domain

For whatever reason, there’s a lot of cybersquatting news going on this week. Yesterday we told you about the AirFranceSucks.com vs. AirFrance case, and today we’ve got a Cape Cod motel owner fighting back against the Earl of Sandwich.

Brian Clifford owns The Earl of Sandwich Motel in Sandwich, Mass. (Sandwich is part of Cape Cod). He’s owned www.earlofsandwich.com since the mid-’90s and says the family of the 11th Earl of Sandwich is trying to bully him into giving up the domain.

The Earl’s family runs a business that sells pre-packaged sandwiches to shops and restaurants in England and also has a shop in Disney World. They claim the domain is integral to their marketing and business. Clifford says tough luck.
