Relentless exposure on cable TV and the opportunity to play online has helped poker’s popularity explode over the past couple of years. The LA Times reports that geeks are now building poker software programs – Deep Bluff, if you will – to play real people in online games and win cash.
Ken Mages of Evanston, Ill., spent two weeks programming his poker bot: “I could sit down at a 50-cent table, put 50 bucks in the account, go to bed and wake up with at least $75.” The most he’s won in such a style is $250.
While bots are cleaning up online at beginner tables, they’re faltering against better players, but they’re learning.
