High-tech McDs: We’re lovin’ it

McDonald’s flagship store is getting geared up like a Circuit City in an attempt to attract more customers.

The Oak Brook, Ill., store is a public restaurant/test site where the company flings ideas against the wall to see what sticks. It’s currently tricked out with digital-media kiosks for burning CDs, downloading cell-phone ring tones and printing photos, dozens of plasma-screen TVs and Wi-Fi Internet access to test their popularity. Depending on how they fare in Oak Brook, some of the gear may be replicated in restaurants across the world.

“It’s unlikely you’ll see this exact restaurant replicated,” McDonald’s spokesman Bill Whitman told the AP. “But you will see elements of this restaurant in some of our new construction. It’s all about keeping our restaurants more relevant for our customers.”
