Not surprisingly, many people were touched by the plight of the 18-year-old, who lives on her own and supports herself with a part-time job. Boston Globe readers and IT vendors, such as security software company Credent Technologies, donated a total of $3,000 to the school to cover the laptop and get Paloma Stanley into her graduation ceremonies Tuesday night.
Credent naturally issued a press release on their largesse and quoted Principal Nicole Bahnam: “We can’t thank Credant enough. I’ve watched Paloma work for the last five years to really turn her life around. This is so wonderful.”
Well, that’s quite the 180 from what Bahnam told The Globe the previous day when she defended her earlier decision about banning Stanley from the ceremony until she paid up: “Those are the tough lessons in life. Nothing comes for free. Hello. We all work very hard.”
