BBC News reports the not-surprising fact that cassettes are in “terminal decline,” moving only 900,000 units last year. Cassettes’ UK peak came in 1989 when they sold 83 million units. The story had no mention of U.S. numbers, but it’s a safe bet they’re proportionally as low. The largest U.S. tape factory shut down production last year.
