In the wake of last week’s London subway bombings there’s obviously been a lot of talk about increasing the safety of mass transit systems.
The AP says futuristic alarms that yell “Hey, that guy in the fedora has a bomb!” are far off, so for the time being, the best methods are decidedly low-tech:
“The best current defenses for the country’s subways, buses and trains, security experts say, remain decidedly low tech: human vigilance and bomb-sniffing dogs.”
The news service takes a look at future bomb-detection technologies currently in the lab, which unfortunately are years away from hitting the street.
