Txt messaging catching on in U.S.

The Wall Street Journal this morning reports that text messaging is finally catching on in the U.S., which has lagged behind pretty much everyone on Earth when it comes to texting.

The reason being that in the U.S. most cell subscribers are on bulk minute plans and have no financial incentive to text when they can call the person they want to reach. In other countries, most subscribers pay per call or per text message, which is cheaper than the former.

Yet the WSJ now says figures show more U.S. adults are texting “finding it to be less intrusive than voice calling, especially in public spaces. It also can be more private than e-mail, since an office colleague or family member can more readily see a message typed on a computer screen.”
