Interesting news out of the digicam world this morning, as research firm IDC reports Kodak has extended its lead in market share.
IDC says Kodak, which specializes in entry-level, point-and-shoot units for those new to the technology, has increased its market share from 18% to 23% over the past year. That’s not a shocker as Kodak is a name well-known to consumers and was one of the first vendors to offer the camera-and-printing station combo package for newbies.
Canon, Sony and Olympus placed 2, 3 and 4 in the sub-$400 camera market. In the $400+ segment, Sony is #1. Researchers believe that by year-end 50% of U.S. homes will own a digital camera.
