The National Transportation Safety Board yesterday voted to urge all states to ban the use of cell phones for younger and/or novice drivers. Eleven states and Washington, D.C. already have such laws in place.
“Learning how to drive while distracted is definitely a recipe for disaster,” said Mark Rosenker, NTSB acting chairman.
True, but we’d argue that at least a hands-free mandate for all drivers should accompany the teen cell ban. Most people just can’t drive and talk at the same time. Last Sunday night, “King of the Hill” had a good cell phone driving joke. Stuck behind a person talking on the phone while driving, Hank notes, “He may as well be drinking a bottle of scotch.”
