Yesterday the ‘Net was all atwitter over rumors of Google testing a Wi-Fi service. And late yesterday the Mothership confirmed it’s betaing Google WiFi, currently available to the public near the company’s Mountain View headquarters – a pizza parlor and a gym. How very California.
“Google WiFi is a community outreach program to offer free wireless access in areas near our headquarters,” Google spokesman Nate Tyler said. “Community outreach?” C’mon. An intercity basketball program is community outreach, not free ‘Net access.
