Two video game trade groups have filed suit in California, calling an upcoming youth-ban on violent video games unconstitutional.
The Video Software Dealers Association and Entertainment Software Association claim the California law, which will go in effect Jan. 1, violates free speech First Amendment rights. Under the law, those who sell or rent violent video games to youths 17 and under face a $1,000 fine.
Oh, come on, just call the law what it is: “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.”
“It is not up to any industry or the government to set standards for what kids can see or do; that is the role of parents,” said Douglas Lowenstein, president of the Entertainment Software Association.
