Google’s just caving in all over the place this week. The company has dropped the name “Gmail” from its free yet amazingly still in beta e-mail service in the U.K. over a copyright dispute.
London-based Independent International Investment Research says it launched its G-mail service in April 2004 and shrewdly registered the “Gmail” trademark with European Union’s trademark office and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office after Google announced its Gmail plans.
Google announced the service will be known across the pond as “googlemail” after “negotiations” with IIIR ended. “Ended” must mean “IIIR wanted too much money.”
