More Americans are using the ‘Net but they’re also concerned about being scammed or losing valuable personal information to the less-than-ethical.
The Census Bureau has released its latest findings on Internet use, which show that 55% have access to the ‘Net at home, more than triple the percentage in 1997. And while that’s good news, chances are the figure is far higher than that, given the latest Census information is from 2003. A study released earlier by the Pew Internet and American Life Foundation claims 68% are online.
And rounding out Internet Study Week, Consumer Reports Webwatch finds that 86% of computer users have changed their online behavior in some way because of concerns about identity theft.
“A little more than half stopped giving out personal information on the Web, while 25% said they stopped making online purchases,” writes USA Today.
