“I’d like to offer you a story idea about why beautiful people get paid more, and what you can do about it if you’re not one of them.
Here’s the big idea: New research shows that beautiful people have higher confidence levels, are perceived to be more productive and capable than their more homely counterparts, and get paid more as a result. But what if you’re not beautiful?”
So, are we getting pitched this because we’re beautiful or homely? The pitch goes on to offer the advice of an image consultant who can tell us:
- “How to emphasize your most unusual or different features”
- “How to create a visual trademark to make yourself memorable”
- “Why hair is like a bow on a box, and how to use it to your advantage”
Do you think “unusual or different” are euphemisms for “ugly”? And we have no idea what a “visual trademark” is, but it makes us want to start wearing argyle socks to work every day (Ed. – Please, no).
